Jesus said, "So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today's trouble is enough for today."(Matthew 6:34 NRSV)
o you know why many people worry? Worry is a substitute for faith. Worry does for some people what faith does for others. Have you heard anybody say, "Don't tell me it doesn't help to worry. Most of the things I worry about never happen!" They really mean it. Some people are genuinely concerned that if they fail to worry, that which they fear will happen.
In a Peanuts cartoon, Linus was talking to Charlie Brown and observed: "I guess it's wrong always to be worrying about tomorrow. Maybe we should think only about today." Charlie Brown replied, "No, that's giving up. I'm still hoping that yesterday will get better."
What we need to is to focus our attention on the things that are really important. Our families, for example. Many of us are more fortunate that we deserve with our families. We've got great kids though they may get on our nerves from time to time. Weather or not they still live at home. I know I am very thankful for Matt and Michele. They have been a real blessing to me. We may not live in Beverly Hills or the Trump Tower, but our house is warm and full of God's grace. And most important, we need to focus on our relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
Jesus calls us to focus on what is really important.
